Thalassa

Updated: Mar 30, 2020

Thalassa is the first image of this project. It depicts a fear many people suffer from, Thalassophobia, the fear of the sea or of sea travel - Thalassophobia can include fear of being in deep bodies of water, fear of the vast emptiness of the sea, of sea waves, sea creatures, and fear of distance from land.

Thalassophobia comes from the Greek word Thalassa, meaning sea, and Phobos, meaning fear.

I created this image in hope to describe a fear without using words. The fear of not being able to escape and being unable to return to the surface for another breath.

As a weaker swimmer, this is a fear that many people like myself will experience, whether it's being on a boat, swimming or even the thought of being in, above, or below water.

Thalassa.
